Holy Cross Conference of St. Vincent de Paul volunteer ministers attend Ozanam training
We provide poor and needy families in the Las Cruces area with one-time emergency financial assistance to help with utility bills, and may help with other needs as well. Poor, needy, and homeless persons may receive vouchers for free clothing and merchandise that can be redeemed at the Thrift Store. Clothing Vouchers can be obtained at the office at Holy Cross Church, 1327 N. Miranda.
We operate a community Thrift Store, with all of the profits used support our mission of helping the poor, needy and homeless. The Thrift Store offers an amazing variety of furniture, art and decor, small appliances, household necessities, books, holiday decorations, and clothing. All merchandise is donated by generous people in our community. Visit us at 125 E. Idaho Ave., near the intersection of Idaho and Main Street.
Equally important to our mission, SVdP provides meaningful opportunities for volunteers to serve their neighbors in need with love and compassion. By treating people with care and respect, we show them that they matter and they are children of God.
To volunteer, stop by the Thrift Store or our office at Holy Cross Church.
Volunteers in our ministry are lay Catholics from parishes throughout the Diocese, and also persons of other faiths, all ages, races and ethnicities.

We have a selection of lamps, tools, books, DVD/CD, dishes, pet and garden supplies, purses, toys, bedding, games, baskets, office supplies, and other stuff.
Decorating is easy with our large selection of pictures, statues and figurines, vases, candle holders, knick-knacks, and holiday decorations.
We offer a variety of very affordable clothing and shoes for men, women and children.

Holy Cross Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul
Report to Holy Cross Parish, FYE SEPTEMBER 2024
The Holy Cross St. Vincent de Paul Conference (SVDP) is an all-volunteer Catholic lay charity that helps poor and homeless persons in Las Cruces.
How We Help: The Holy Cross SVDP Conference has a Financial Assistance Program, a Homeless Assistance Program, and a Thrift Store. The Financial Assistance Program is funded through Sunday collections at Holy Cross and from sales at the Thrift Store. In 2024, Holy Cross Parishioners contributed $23,737 to SVDP; 100% of these funds were used for Financial Assistance.
Our Thrift Store enables us to provide clothing, furniture, and household items to the poor and needy in our community, using a voucher system. Merchandise is also sold at modest prices, and the income provides financial assistance to the poor and material assistance to the homeless. To learn more, pick up one of our brochures in the church foyer. Call 575-649-0406 to request assistance or inquire at the Holy Cross Church office. Also, Holy Cross SVDP has a website where you can learn more about us and request assistance at www.stvincentdepaullascruces.com.
Assistance Provided to the Poor and Homeless in 2024:
· We had 177 home visits and 13 office visits, which resulted in $31,670 in financial assistance for 133 families (306 adults and 243 children) in Las Cruces (an average of $238 per family) and 64 furniture/clothing vouchers being issued. This year we also purchased new backpacks with school supplies valued at $2251 and handed out 37 of those during the home visits.
· A total of 789 vouchers were redeemed at the Thrift Store, which helped 370 people (including 223 children) receive clothing, furniture, or household items; and also 529 homeless people with items such as clothing, tents, sleeping bags, blankets, backpacks, and hygiene products. These vouchers were distributed by the Holy Cross Church office, St. Genevieve’s SVDP, home visits by SVDP volunteers, and the Thrift Store.
· The used value of merchandise given out through our voucher program was $43,501. An additional $5,561 was spent to purchase new items for the homeless.
· In the past year a total of 1,448 people were helped with direct financial aid or in-kind services by the Holy Cross SVDP ministry.
All-Volunteer Ministry Collaboration: A total of 25 Parishioners from Holy Cross, Our Lady of Health, Our Lady of Purification, Santa Rosa de Lima, San Albino, St. Genevieve, Immaculate Heart of Mary, St. Albert the Great and several members of the First Baptist Church contributed 9,401 hours of volunteer work in the past year.

Grateful For YOU! We are able to help our neighbors in Las Cruces because of the generous financial and material support of parishioners at Holy Cross. As always, we are especially grateful to Father Richard Catanach, who is our Spiritual Advisor and a Friend to the Poor. Also, to the staff of Holy Cross Church who assisted us in many ways, including handing out vouchers and collecting our donations. We are extremely thankful for our past and present donors and volunteers, spearheaded by Merlin Stigge and Rita Arnett, who worked, planned, and saved diligently for the purchase of our new store this year. THANK YOU!
On that day, O Lord, when I finally stand before You to give an account of my life, I pray I will hear You say, “Come, O good and faithful servant to share your Father’s joy, for when I was hungry, thirsty, naked, homeless, ill and imprisoned, you offered your gifts in charity, and you lovingly did it for Me.” Amen.
Your generous donation will help us make a difference in the lives of those we serve. Every little bit counts and we appreciate your support.
